Hereford cattle is the oldest beef breed reared in the Czech Republic. However, the quality of this breed was changed a lot since its first importation in 1975. Nowadays Hereford excels by size and growth ability comparing to its ancestors. It was caused by usage of American bulls both in insemination and natural service. Most of Hereford cattle which is breed in the Czech Republic is horned, but some of them are also polled. Even Hereford is not already most widespread breed, it is still very popular race especially in not so rich areas. Exceptional maternal qualities of Hereford's dams are used for crossing with the other beef breeds.
